João Branco Award

NOMINATION FOR BEST PAPER

We ask participants of the EAD09 The Endless End conference to make a nomination for best paper at the conference in order to aid us in making suitable choices for the following two incentives:

JOãO BRANCO / EAD AWARD
The João Branco/EAD award is a joint initiative between the European Academy of Design and the family of João Branco; it aims to contribute to the promotion and development of Research in any Design field.

The award value of 2500€ (two thousand and five hundred Euros) will be offered by the family of João Branco and the EAD will waive the registration fees for the next EAD conference in 2013.

The João Branco/EAD award winner will be chosen from among the three most voted papers by participants in the EAD conference. The choice process will be undertaken by a board comprising: the EAD Chairman, the Conference Chair and a representative of the family of João Branco.

The João Branco Award will be presented at EAD10 by a member of his family to the award winner(s) or their representative.
The Design Journal

A special EAD09 conference issue of the Design Journal will be published in 2012. Papers included in this issue will be chosen from among the EAD09 nominations for best paper.

Regulations

1. THE AWARD
The João Branco/EAD award is a joint initiative between the European Academy of Design the family of João Branco, and it aims to contribute to the promotion and development of Research in any Design field.

1.1. The João Branco/EAD award distinguishes the best paper (and presentation) among the ones accepted for each EAD conference edition.

1.2. The award value of 2500€ (two thousand and five hundred euros) will be offered by the family of João Branco and EAD will offer the registration fees for the next edition of the EAD conference.

2. THE DECISION METHODOLOGY
2.1. The João Branco/EAD award winner will be chosen among the three most voted papers by participants in the EAD conference. The choice process will be undertaken by a board comprising: the EAD Chairman, Conference Chair and a representative of the family of João Branco.

a) each EAD conference participant will be entitled to a voting bulletin which will be delivered together with the documentation for the conference.
b) the votes will be collected, throughout the conference, in a properly marked ballot box.
c) after the counting, the conference organization will send a copy of the three most voted papers for the jury to decide on the best paper.
d) in case of a tie, priority will be given to a Ph.D student.

3. THE RESULT ANNOUNCEMENT AND AWARD DELIVERY
3.1. For each edition of the João Branco / EAD award, the outcome of the deliberations of the jury will be announced one month after the conference’s end at the latest.

3.2. EAD will be in charge of communicating the jury ́s decision to the author(s) of the awarded paper, as well as providing its public disclosure, which should be made:

a) through the EAD website;
b) through the EAD mailing list;
c) through paper publication in Design Journal, accompanied by explicit indication of the award; additionally, the paper should be available for download free of charge;
d) through the website of the following conference edition, together with the award announcement and regulations.

3.3. The award will be provided by the family of João Branco by bank transfer, within one month after result notification.

3.4. The diploma will be delivered to the award winner(s) (or a representative) by a relative of João Branco during the following EAD conference edition. The award winner(s) undertake the commitment to be present, or to appoint a representative to be present at said EAD conference edition.
